“Automatism” Storyline
“For me, these small graphic works act as a springboard for regaining the enjoyment of making art. Freeing my hand from the paralysis of thought, the drawing is done without any preconceived ideas.
The Surrealists and some Abstract Expressionist painters used this technique of Automatism to tap into the unconscious mind which results in a completely random outcome.
Although I have done the pen and ink drawing automatically, the coloring is explored and added carefully with consideration toward the Principles of Design. Special emphasis is placed on movement, proportion, and variety of color. The best of both worlds. Enjoy!”

Lynn Heil is a prolific Arizona oil painter, based in Sedona, Arizona. His love of nature often takes him out in the field, where he paints the magnificent landscape en plein air. Through his work he seeks to capture the ephemeral quality of northern Arizona, especially Sedona, Oak Creek Canyon and the Grand Canyon. He has been juried into numerous shows at the Sedona Arts Center, and was invited to participate in the inaugural Plein Air Legacy Event at Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village in 2016.
