“STANDING STRONG”
Sometimes it is a good thing to say, “I feel like an ant” and that is exactly how I felt standing next to a captive bison. With fence between us, there stood a composition of hair, horns and hide adding up to 2600 pounds of pure inspiration. This was the first of many bison encounters that have driven my heart and hands for years.
My new and latest piece, “Standing Strong,” was easily inspired by my respect for a magnificent animal that has historically endured extreme hardship and is still standing strong. Below the rough character of the bust on this bronze, the narrative continues with three bas reliefs – each telling a story. The first depicts two bulls fighting for the rights of their harem, the second is the winning bull with his mate and the third is the bull, cow and calf – the next generation.
With all these elements combined in one piece to provide a sense of discovery to the viewer - the stories unfold.
