“Secret Canyon Dweller” Storyline

“The inspiration for ‘Secret Canyon Dweller’ came from my actually having observed a mountain lion in the wild strike this pose as he was hunting through rim rock canyons. Combined with my obsession of big cats, their anatomy, and their fluid grace, I then researched extensively and found a trainer in Montana who had a mature 140-pound male lion. I hired the services of the handler, which provided me the opportunity to use the mountain lion as live reference while sculpting him in the field. Being able to take physical measurements of the lion’s every dimension, combined with having worked in the taxidermy field and acquiring invaluable reference during that time, the stage was set for me to have the perfect blueprint in creating this piece.“
