“Amorè” Monument Storyline

“My love affair with amphibians started in childhood.  Each summer we would visit my Aunt’s summer home in Pennsylvania.  While my siblings and cousins were having fun in the pool, I was sitting by the frog pond waiting for the bullfrogs to poke their heads out.  I was enchanted with them.

In the 1980’s when very few sculptors were using frogs as subject matter, I sculpted a frog in a sitting position.  It was a big hit and I started a series of frogs that told a story.

Amorè is my 7th large amphibian sculpture.  One of my collectors wanted a fifth large piece for his collection since he had decided to leave one to each of his grandchildren.  He was a prominent heart surgeon before retiring, so I suggested a large version of my maquette, Amorè.  He agreed and I was motivated to create this sculpture.

I’ve branched out quite a bit since the 80’s to do several other animals but frogs are still a favorite and this sculpture is my way of spreading love and joy to a troubled world. “
